Pre Australian Nationals 2013 Event Preview
JASON GRIMA’S DAY OF RECKONING HAS COME. WILL THE AUSTRALIAN NATIONALS REWARD HIM WITH HIS FIRST ANDRA PRO STOCK CHAMPIONSHIP?
October 31, 2013 – It’s been a long and grueling championship season for Sydney Pro Stock racer Jason Grima. All across the country Grima has gone in search for points in what has been described as the toughest category in ANDRA Group 1 drag racing.
From Sydney, Adelaide, Brisbane and Perth, the JGM transporter racked the mileage. And now with just 17 points separating himself and his nearest rival, its D-day
In preparation for the Australian Nationals, Grima is not beating himself up with pre-race stress.
“I’m feeling confident for this weekend and the JGM team will give me the best possible race car,” said Grima. “We went testing on Monday and Tuesday at Sydney Dragway and the Ford PC Group Mustang showed plenty of potential with a best of 6.99. We figured that was good especially in the heat of Monday, so we packed it in the trailer. We didn’t see any point in further testing on Wednesday as the conditions were all over the place with cool and windy conditions.
“It’s the Nationals and we have a huge weekend ahead with 18 cars in attendance. I went back to work on Wednesday and just went about my usual daily routine so I could think about something else besides racing,” laughed Grima. We will be ready and relaxed. The crew are going over the car with a fine toothpick and they wont leave any stone unturned. The team is pumped and so am I.
“It would have been great to have a two-car punch this weekend but Brandon (Huhtala) was not able to make the trip as he is in a points race himself in the US. But I’ve got his phone number and he’ll be kept up to speed throughout the weekend.
When asked what the Nationals means to him, Grima replied “To be honest each and every race we attend is important but probably winning the Nationals would be right up there. It’s the biggest race of the 2012-13 season and we have three drivers in with a shot at the title. So yeah winning this weekend would mean a lot to the team and me. I’ve never won a Nationals, or won a championship round so my next win will be my first win in Pro Stock. The Nationals is a big name in the sport and it carries a lot of weight, has a big reputation and a long history. I’m sure my rivals will also have the same desire to win in Sydney and that’s what makes Pro Stock so exciting at the moment because it’s a tight field.
“We are going to take every race as it comes. We wont be putting any pressure on ourselves. The track conditions will have changed from testing but we are expecting it to be hot and even hotter on the track. Bring it on."
